Video: Renewing Midtown - Challenges

At Modern All Over Again, our annual conference on October 2, we convened an exceptional array of industry experts to discuss how to best revitalize and retrofit midcentury commercial buildings, public housing, and energy infrastructure in New York City. For the first time, we are sharing videos from those discussions.
In today’s installment, watch Renewing Midtown: Part 1 – featuring Urban Green Board Member Bob Fox (COOKFOX Architects). Fox, who started work as an architect in NYC in 1966, is personally familiar with how office buildings were designed and built during those years—“what makes them tick,” as he put it. Watch the video to learn why “nobody was really focused on energy" during that period, and to learn about the key characteristics of these buildings that make them both energy inefficient and challenging to retrofit.
