Local Law 87 is one of four laws in New York’s Greener, Greater Buildings Plan enacted in December 2009 to improve the energy and water efficiency of New York City’s largest buildings. LL87 requires property owners to energy audit and retro-commission their buildings every 10 years and submit an Energy Efficiency Report to the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) documenting the results.
To ensure compliance with LL87, Urban Green Council created a User Guide & Compliance Checklist, and worked with an outstanding Speakers Bureau to deliver complimentary presentations to building industry organizations, building owners, manager, tenants and any group impacted by the new requirements.
Our outreach program for Local Law 87 was a success. In just ten months, we reached over 1,300 professionals representing over 500 companies in a range of market sectors. Property managers and owners, who are directly responsible for complying with the law, made up 30% of total attendees.
To wrap up this effort, we’ve published a final report that shares lessons learned and key findings from our Local Law 87 education efforts.
