Course overview

In GPRO Fundamentals of Building Green, you will learn how to see buildings differently and discover strategies to make them efficient, healthy and resilient.

What you’ll learn

By the end of this course, participants will learn:

  • How reducing building energy will reduce the effects of climate change
  • Basic elements of green, high-performance construction and building operations
  • Role of trades on high-performance job sites
  • Energy-consuming building systems and some strategies to reduce building energy use

Who is this for

This course is ideal for anyone who needs a better understanding of high-performance building, including sales or administrative staff in real estate, construction, architecture or engineering, workforce development providers, facilities and operations staff, and college students interested in entering the building or construction industry.

How it works

This class session will be held virtually over zoom.

Registration includes a course e-book and the online exam session. Students who pass the exam with an 80% or higher become a GPRO Certificate Holder.

If you are unable to attend your scheduled course date, sign up for a future class at no additional cost by emailing gpro@urbangreencouncil.org. We understand that your plans may change and are happy to refund your registration fee within 90 days of purchase. Requests for session changes and/or refunds must be received at least a week in advance of the course date. Memberships and donations are nonrefundable.

Instructor

Katherine Copp Brown
Resident Professor, SUNY Rockland Community College

Kay Copp Brown is a Resident Professor of Green Building at SUNY Rockland Community College with a decade of experience teaching Sustainability courses. Previously, she served as a Sustainability Project Manager at McKissack, overseeing LEED Gold achievements at the World Trade Center and the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Kay has also taught green building and construction management courses at various institutions including CUNY Baruch College and Cooper Union. She holds a BSc with Honors in Building Surveying from London, UK, and an MS in Construction Management from New York University. As a LEED AP and experienced Sustainable Project Manager, Kay is dedicated to promoting green building practices through education and industry expertise.
