Annual reports

We’re incredibly proud of our impact in realizing cleaner, healthier, low-carbon buildings for all New Yorkers.

2024 was a landmark year for New York City and Urban Green as it marked the first compliance period for Local Law 97, the nationʼs most ambitious building emissions law.

We’re proud of what we achieved last year, but we have so much more to do to realize a carbon-free future for New York.

Your support makes our work possible, and we’re grateful to be surrounded by such a driven and inspiring community. Let’s continue to build solutions for climate change.

In 2024, we…

  • Secured policy victories in the implementation of Local Law 97 with the Affordable Housing Reinvestment Fund.
  • Analyzed the cityʼs benchmarking data, which shows NYCʼs large buildings decreased their energy use for the fifth year in a row, with 92 percent estimated to meet their 2024 Local Law 97 limits.
  • Trained nearly 6,000 people through our cutting-edge GPRO, energy code, and public programs, building a workforce ready to implement decarbonization strategies.
  • Published a new report, Cool Switch, which illuminates a sleeper opportunity to cut New York Stateʼs residential sector emissions by up to 30 percent.
  • Aired a special fireside chat on climate progress with Gina McCarthy, former White House Climate Advisor and EPA Administrator.
