Mark MacCracken on Matterhorn

Mark MacCracken and his son Josh summited the Matterhorn in 2012 in support of USGBC's Project Haiti Orphanage.

Urban Green Board Member Emeritus Mark MacCracken (CALMAC) is generously and courageously dedicating his summit of Mount Kilimanjaro later this month in support of Urban Green's work.

It feels like a paradox—saving natural landscapes like Kilimanjaro by focusing on cities and buildings—but it’s true. Buildings produce more greenhouse gases than other source in NYC, and are the fourth largest culprit nationwide. Urban Green is working to change that—we’ve created and fought for the ideas that are turning NYC’s buildings green. And if we can figure out sustainability in NYC, we can figure it out in other large cities across the country.

If you'd like to support Mark and our mission, please pledge a tax-deductible donation of 1, 2, 3 or even 10 cents a vertical foot for the trip up on summit day (roughly 3,700 feet), down (between 6,000 and 9,000 feet) or both.
